I was honoured to attend the Stroke Awards in Melbourne on Thursday 03/05/18 . I was named as a finalist in the category for Improving Life after Stroke.
It wasn’t exactly a great start to the morning though, my flight into Melbourne was delayed and then i was stuck in traffic in the CBD and ended up being about an hour late to the event. I missed them presenting my category, which was fine because they did mine at the end. I did feel really awkward though being the only one going up to collect my certificate.
I attended the event with my cousin, who i haven’t seen for two years so this was a great opportunity to catch up. The event was held at Melbourne Town Hall and included a morning tea which was nice. It was such a great experience and was lovely to meet fellow stroke survivors and people from the Stroke Foundation. I then was invited to lunch by our Managing Director from work. That was also a great opportunity to catch up. My company were really supportive of me whilst i was in hospital and still continue to be. It was a great opportunity for me to network with other staff in our Melbourne office.
I had some time after lunch, and i was able to explore a little. I ended up going to Hopetoun Tea Rooms. It’s such a nice little tea room on Collins St. Unfortunately, i only got there about 10 mins before closing so got some take away. It was definitely worth it. I got a chai and a little box of Pecans. I’ve never had Pecans before so i didn’t know what to expect but they were amazing!
